What hidden characters does Gemini text contain?
Text copied out of AI chat apps often carries characters you cannot see: zero-width spaces, word joiners, non-breaking spaces, soft hyphens, and directional marks. Some arrive through the web clipboard, some through markdown rendering, and some are inserted deliberately. They survive paste into editors, emails, and CMSs, and they are exactly what detection scripts scan for.
What is SynthID and does this remove it?
SynthID Text is Google’s statistical watermark: it biases word choices during generation, so the mark lives in the wording itself, not in hidden bytes. No character cleaner can remove a statistical watermark — only rewriting the text changes it. What this tool removes is the layer of invisible Unicode and formatting artifacts that pasted text carries.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?

Is cleaning these characters allowed?
Removing formatting artifacts from your own text is normal editing — the same thing a plain-text paste does. What matters is honesty about authorship where it is required: school and workplace policies on AI assistance still apply to the words themselves, not the invisible bytes around them.
