Your conversations, portable
conversations.json Viewer & JSON to Markdown Converter
Make sense of your AI chat export without reading raw JSON. This free conversations.json viewer detects ChatGPT and Claude conversation records, shows readable messages, and converts a selected chat to Markdown.
Free · No account needed
Open your conversations.json
Choose a ChatGPT or Claude JSON export (up to 25 MB). Preview your conversations, then copy or download one as Markdown. Your file is read in this browser and is not uploaded or saved to your Admix account.
Text only. Images, attachments, tool results, memories, and project settings are not imported. ChatGPT previews follow the active conversation branch. Refreshing or leaving the page clears the loaded file.
How to use the viewer
- Extract your ChatGPT or Claude export ZIP on your device.
- Choose conversations.json or a JSON file containing conversation records. Files up to 25 MB are supported.
- Search the conversation titles and select a chat to preview its text.
- Copy the transcript or download a Markdown file. Repeat for other conversations you want to keep.
What is conversations.json?
It is a structured file used in AI conversation exports. ChatGPT records commonly store a mapping tree of messages; Claude conversation records use chat_messages. Although the filename can be the same, the structures differ. This viewer checks the contents rather than assuming that every JSON file uses one format.
Convert ChatGPT JSON to Markdown
Markdown turns nested JSON into a transcript with a conversation title and labeled user and assistant messages. Download the selected chat as a .md file to read in a text editor, keep in your notes, or attach as context to another AI conversation. Code blocks and other text already present in the messages remain in the transcript.
Read exports locally
The file reader and converter run in this browser tab. No conversation content, filenames, or titles are sent by this tool. The page records only tool actions and conversation counts through the site’s analytics setup. Your file is not saved to an Admix account, and you can clear it or refresh the page to remove it from the current view.
Supported formats and limits
Use a JSON array, a wrapper with a conversations array, or a single ChatGPT or Claude record. Only user and assistant text is shown. Attachments and images are omitted. ChatGPT follows the selected branch; regenerated sibling answers are not merged. The preview limits long messages and shows the first 200 messages, while copy and Markdown download contain all extracted text from that conversation.

Extract your AI export archive, choose the JSON file in the viewer, and select a conversation. You do not need to sign in or install a JSON editor.
Is this conversations.json viewer free?
Yes. Previewing, copying, and downloading Markdown are free and do not require an Admix account.
Why does my JSON file show no conversations?
It may be a manifest, user profile, unsupported format, or an export with no readable text. Choose the file containing a ChatGPT mapping or Claude chat_messages. Extract ZIP archives before using this viewer.
